Lift connectivity
Lift & Elevator SIM Cards
Plan long-life cellular connectivity for lift emergency communication, monitoring and maintenance – with building-level testing, not desk-based assumptions.
In brief
A lift SIM may support an emergency communication unit, a monitoring gateway or maintenance telemetry. The SIM is only one component: the complete installation must meet the lift equipment manufacturer's requirements, applicable standards, power-backup obligations and the maintenance organisation's response process.
What you can connect
- Emergency communication units
- Lift health and fault telemetry
- Remote maintenance gateways
- Modernisation of legacy mobile services
Connectivity is only one part of reliability
Lift cars, shafts, plant rooms and basements are difficult radio environments.
A data-only service may not meet a device that requires voice, SMS or a specific call path.
Compliance and emergency performance belong to the complete installed system, not the SIM by itself.
Technical planning
Design the complete connection
Architecture
Emergency communication, controller telemetry and maintenance gateways are different workloads. First establish whether the installed communicator needs voice, SMS, packet data or a specific managed alarm path. The full system includes antenna, backup power, receiving centre, routine testing and maintenance; a generic data SIM cannot certify it.
Data and power sizing
Routine telemetry may be small, but emergency calls, test calls, voice technology, supervision and software updates must be specified. Long asset life makes radio sunset and replacement planning as important as monthly data. Survey the antenna location through lift travel and during mains failure.
Solution design
What we qualify before recommending a SIM
Coverage maps and headline data allowances are a starting point. A production design needs the device, traffic, locations and operating model.
- Lift controller and communicator make/model
- Voice, SMS, data and alarm-receiving requirements
- Survey at the installed antenna position through lift travel
- Battery backup and power-failure operation
- Routine test calls, monitoring and escalation process
- Technology sunset and long-term replacement plan
Multi-provider by design
Choose Onomondo, Telnyx or another fit
Onomondo can be useful for monitoring gateways and diagnostic telemetry where multi-network access and remote logs matter. Telnyx may fit IP-based controllers needing API control or defined addressing. Emergency-call solutions require separate confirmation of voice, number, network and standards compatibility; iSIM will not substitute a generic data SIM without that evidence.
Onomondo may suit data gateways that benefit from multi-network access and diagnostics. Telnyx may suit IP controllers needing APIs or defined addressing. Neither provider should be selected for an emergency communicator until voice, numbering, device, receiving-centre and applicable Australian requirements are confirmed in writing.
Availability note: networks, radio technologies, IP features, regions and platform controls vary by provider, country and plan. We verify the proposed configuration during the pilot.

What the pilot should prove
- Record communicator model, radio bands and required services.
- Survey the installed antenna position through the full lift travel.
- Test backup power, routine calls and escalation with responsible parties.
- Document network sunset, maintenance and rollback arrangements.
Discover
Confirm devices, sites, traffic, security, support and commercial constraints.
Pilot
Test representative hardware and locations, then measure attachment, usage and recovery.
Scale
Document the approved profile, alerts, ownership and rollout or rollback process.
Frequently asked questions
Can any IoT SIM be used in a lift phone?
No. Confirm the communicator's supported radio bands, voice technology, SIM type, APN and alarm-receiving design. Many IoT offers are data-only.
Does a multi-network SIM guarantee coverage in a lift shaft?
No. More available networks can improve options, but the building, antenna, radio bands and network availability determine the result. Test at the installed location.
Is the SIM compliant with Australian lift standards?
A SIM alone is not a compliant lift communication system. Compliance assessment applies to the equipment, installation, power backup, communications path, monitoring and maintenance process.
Can the same connection send maintenance telemetry?
Potentially, if the communicator or gateway supports it and emergency traffic remains appropriately prioritised and isolated.
Why run a pilot in several buildings?
Construction, basement depth, antenna routes and local networks vary materially. Representative sites reveal risks a coverage map cannot.
Prove the connection before you scale it.
Tell us what you are connecting, where it operates and what must happen when coverage changes. We will shape a representative iSIM pilot.
